Walking home tonight from the Greenwood subway station at about 8:30, I heard an Eastern Screech Owl singing from a spruce near the corner of Linnsmore and Springdale. When I crossed the street to investigate, it flew out of the spruce and lit in the branches of a maple arching over the street about 20 feet above my head. The bird held there singing for the next five minutes or so while I and a couple of other pedestrians watched, and when I left, I could still hear that excited, high-pitched whinny for some ways down the street.
