this thought just crossed my mind after seeing all the cut down trees from the beavers.  I think that yes its nice to see beavers in toronto and have them there in the park but to be honest they dont need to be there.  while i was there last weekend i could easily say that at least 40 or more tress have been fell all over the park and theres not much trees to start with.  If you think about it the beavers are just going to cause problems in the near future because they won't stop cutting down trees until theres no more to eat.  The park is supposed to be a bird sanctuary and at this point it is, but if the beaver population grows more and more trees will be eaten thus leaving no habitat for many types of birds.  So if there was a decision to remove the beaver i would happily say yes asap because there just causing problems in my mind.

thats just my opinion what does everyone else think.

Did you notice the trees with wire-mesh around them?

I was browsing the beaver's "peopling" forums earlier, they were mentioning the same thing about people and dogs :)  Seriously though, they do take out a lot of trees, I know the city is using wire to protect some trees from this activity...

I agree with the last post - it would be interesting to understand how people affect the bird habitat and population in the park - joggers, bikers, birders, photographers, dump-trucks alike.  I've seen people digging through bushes, walking into nesting grounds and protected areas trying to get 'the perfect shot' or 'see the birds up close' - each causing their own negative impact.

I'm sure the beaver has an impact - and it sounds like people are taking notice (re: wire-mesh around trees), but what other factors are at work here?
