Saw this slightly bedraggled raccoon in the Baselands area of the Leslie Street Spit last week.

Hah! Yes, it was broad daylight, so he should have been snoozing. After taking the photograph, I moved on, and the raccoon followed me for some distance. I started to wonder if he may have been someone's pet that they grew tired of and abandoned on the Spit.

Pet raccoons were a phenomenon in Japan after the release of the cartoon version of "Rascal". There were no wild raccoons in Japan. That has changed.
