I spent a week in Mexico recently and had a chance to photograph a few birds and butterflies. One day we visited the oak forests of the Cuenca de la Esperanza Nature Reserve outside Santa Rosa de Lima in Guanajuato state. Here's a picture of a California Sister that I took near the visitor's centre there.

Wow! Technicolour dream machine. Is it toxic?
Imagine being surrounded by these marvels when you're under peyote.
Fantastic photograph and a great souvenir of Mexico.
Do you think it could fly over the border wall and piss-off Trump?
Did you get to see the Great Wall of Mexico?

Thanks, Shortsighted. We were able to avoid the Great Wall by flying to Mexico City and then taking a van to San Miguel de Allende in Guanajuato state. Saw a lot of the countryside and met many of the people who work in the national and state parks. My overall impression was of a resilient and resourceful country that will survive and thrive in spite of whatever nonsense transpires in Washington.
