This morning was out walking my dog in our neighbourhood - Meadowvale Mississauga and noticed a bird I haven't seen before...  When I got close enough I was amazed to see a white belly with a bright red triangular throat patch.  The upper body was a dark blackish colour.  The only bird I could compare it to in my field guide that meets it's size and colour was the Rose Breasted Grosbeak.  Any other birds at this time of year that would compare??

That sounds 100% right. They are around at migration time. Over the coming weeks almost anything could be seen. Im waiting for some nice warmer winds and some rain to bring many birds.

Hey  :!:

My bud from Mississauga Meadowvale spotted a brown thrasher and an   Eastern Towhee   this past week

I cannot remember exactly but I think the Towhee was in his yard and the Thrasher was at Wabukayne park/lake..

He sent me the pics to ask me what they were..

Napper :D

Rose breasted Grosbeaks passed thru  Milton in early May  last year   . They were around for about 10 days and then gone.

Looks like they're right on schedule.

Two males showed up this morning at my feeder.

They've been working on the black oil throughout the day. (one on each perch)

Nice   :)

a Rose breasted grosbeak showed up at my feeder today,  two days earlier than last year

a chipmunk under the feeder as well.

Napper  :D

hopefully get a few images if it clears up later

It cleared up just around 7 pm watched him for almost an hour,

this was the best I could do, unfortunately he hung out in the shadows

Yup - a Rose-breasted Grosbeak (male) has been hanging around my feeder all morning. He's easily chased away by the cardinals. He's just been joined by another male sitting in a tree about 8 ft from my window. This is a few days earlier than my first backyard sighting last year.

Thanks for the feedback everyone...  Napper it's funny you mention your bud from Mississaga - Meadowvale observed a brown thrasher...  Last week I was able to get a picture of a Brown Thrasher in the exact same area I observed the rose breasted grosbeak this week in meadowvale...
