Silver Fox

[Dinusaur]

A melanistic red fox is seen in a prominent park by the shores of Lake Ontario in Toronto. I was at the park this morning and managed to see and photograph this rarity. Given the number of photogs I saw I presume the location is well known. I also heard that someone leaving dog food in bags to bait the fox for photos, if it is true it is very sad. At one point it passed by a group of photographers so close that they could almost touch it if they wished. It is definitely habituated to people. I hope this beautiful creature stays safe and away from people. And the bonus was seeing a hovering Osprey.

Considering the profound human intrusion into those lakefront precincts groomed as parks
it is no wonder that wildlife acquire notoriety and are shadowed by paparazzi. Not everyone
is as respectful and cautious as you. I might be inclined to overstep good behaviour given the
caliber of the find.

I had been photographing these foxes for over 2 months with not a single other person around. Word got out and now the world has descended on that park. I haven't been since people started showing up. People are leaving dog food out, tossing it hotdogs and chasing it all over the park. It's definitely turned into a disaster there. I'm lucky I was able to spend so much time with these foxes and I have some great pictures. Now all you see is running foxes lol

Thanks Meghan. Someone told me that there were two black kits, I only saw one. Anyway, here's what the fox thought of the trash that people left behind in the park.

Yes there are 2, the other one is in a different area right now. This one is totally habituated to people now.
I'm glad to see it doesn't like the offerings it is receiving lol

The foxes that denned in front of my house seem to delight in crapping on my driveway...it might have something to do with the fact that my dog Crosby craps in the bush by their den.

I still can't get over how striking these little beasts are.

People need to be policed...I don't know if you caught the CBC story about a bear swatting at a runner in Coquitlam...the theory is that it became habituated through feeding on garbage and that pretty much seals it's fate...
