Yellow-bellied Cuckoo playing peekaboo

Merlin

Green Heron
Didn't need Shortsighted's time-consuming tactics for this one, it popped out of the vegetation when I startled it and posed nicely on a railing.

You're just more gentile-looking than I am and did not come across as
a threat. You were probably not moving when it posed to assess the
intrusion and that makes all the difference. You can see that it has
a relaxed stance with feather unruffled and flat. Also, your lens was
probably so immense that your face was well-concealed and those
critical eyes are completely hidden.
Nice shots ... thanks for posting.

Yeah, I tried to get my camera out of my pocket (so no, no immense lens, just zoom point-and-shoot) very carefully not to startle the heron again. The head feathers were raised when he popped up and landed, but it got more relaxed when I was able to take the picture.

I would love to take the one with the crest feathers up. Didn't know they do that before.
