The Wood ducks that call High Park home are so well-adjusted to humans that getting close to them is almost predictable, while the same species elsewhere, in the wild, are very skittish and will relocate at the slightest movement. The only time I have been able to get close to Wood ducks in the wild is under a camo cover so that they did not know I was there. Under those conditions I needed to be on site before the ducks arrived. or be prepared to endure a long wait if my arrival spooked them and a return visit was anticipated.
Thank goodness for High Park.
