Pine Grosbeaks are on the move also. I had 5 new year species today (in November!) as I also went to see the Tundra Bean-Goose at Nolan Quarry near Ottawa where I also saw Barnacle Goose, Ross's Goose and Cackling Goose.

Oh wow, you made the trip for the Tundra Bean-goose! Great that you found it.


In the meantime early this week a Variegated Flycatcher showed up in Whitby; unfortunately I couldn't get out until late in the afternoon the following day and I missed it by 15 minutes. It was a no show the next day, it might have perished overnight from the cold front that moved in.

I only made the trip from Ottawa as I was there for non-birding related reasons, so not that far...


Too bad about the Variegated Flycatcher, apparently it was discovered some days before the word got out to the birding community and then the cold nights were not too kind to a tropical bird.
