Finally I got there, took a lot of courage, and some help from some friendly birders there.

Did I tell you guys I went to look for a short eared owl? Well, I will still be looking.

Wow, you gave yourself an early Christmas gift … a trip to Amherst Island, or as I like to call it, Fantasy Island, because I’m never going to get there … so, it might as well be make-believe. Unlike Paul O’Toole who lives nearby, you can’t expect an explosion of sightings in one single visit, nonetheless you managed to both locate and photograph a Snowy owl. Outstanding! You are becoming quite a force to be reckoned with even though toy shoot first and ask questions later, … you rebel you, … you outlaw you. Merry Christmas anyway, … you gadabout you.

Thank you. Dinu gave me some directions, and when I got there, some birders were kind enough to let me follow their car and show me the spot where the owls can be spotted and tell me the timing. We birders are the best people!
I drove around the island for a bit as well. Very nice place, might go again in the near future.

So you made it safely there and back - it does require a bit of courage the first time you get there. As SS said it is a magical place; not so for your car though. Too bad about not having luck in seeing your desired owl. You still managed to get a nice combo of birds. A Snowy flying towards you is always a thrill to see. No luck seeing a male harrier? Better luck next time. I remember seeing 30 Snowy owls in my 2019 visit; all in one place - that is still my record number for a day or location.

Yes Dinu, I saw the male harrier, not great pic though. Such pretty white plumage!
I went to Colonel Sam Smith, and saw our local owl today!
