While I still have an adult White-crowned Sparrow hanging around it was joined today by a Lincoln's Sparrow. Lincoln's Sparrows are rare enough in this area, but in late December? Photo here: https://ebird.org/canada/checklist/S78254550

You get some nice birds in your yard! Lincoln's Sparrow is rare in winter, I remember there was one in Mississauga a few years back.

Yes I do get rarities at certain times of the year. This little dynamo Lincoln' Sparrow was here the entire day eating non-stop on my offerings. It attacked and chased away any White-throated Sparrow that got within 3 feet of it. Hilarious considering it only half the size. We'll see if it's back tomorrow. I suspect it will be.

A fantastic yard bird this time of the year. My backyard is very quiet these days.

My little Lincoln's Sparrow was still around today. I am pretty confident it will be a first Lincoln's Sparrow of the year for me tomorrow. I don't even see one every year. It has a big preference for nyger seed but does not go to any feeder. I have mixed some nyger in with the usual bird seed and sprinkled some on the ground which it gobbles up. Interestingly, when spooked it takes refuge in my barbecue.

Please don't cook it! The little bird has everything figured out!

My first Lincoln's Sparrow of 2021. Geez, that was easy. My feisty little visitor continues to punch above it's weight chasing House Sparrows and White-throated Sparrows away if they get too close. Here's a better photo from today: https://ebird.org/canada/checklist/S78405125
