December 29. Watched a Bald Eagle for about an hour and a half from the comfort of our living room! It sat in an Oak tree about a hundred yards away preening and watching as hikers passed on the trails below completely unaware he was above them. Unfortunately, we missed seeing it fly off but it was a treat being able to watch such a magnificent bird, for such a long time, at our leisure!

Fantastic! Does it mean that we are going to have a warm winter? Normally eagles would go south, wouldn't they? :)

Not seeing a Bald Eagle perched above a well-traveled trail does not surprise me. People see what they know because the senses are better tuned to what you know. There could have been a Pteranodon on that perch and it would also be disregarded. Was the eagle grateful for the slight, or pissed-off for being ignored?

The surprising thing was seeing a bird watching people rather than the other way round.

I just wish I was somehow involved, either the watcher or the watched. My friend shared with me this morning that she was followed by a very thin fox once and she got scared. I wish I was in her shoes.  ;D

Ontario is seeing increasing number of Bald Eagles - a great comeback story. I wish that sooner or later one shows up in Downsview Park, fishing in that big pond  :) .
