Hi all,

Today I thought I'd spend a couple of hours birding at a different park along the top of the Scarborough Bluffs.  Cudia Park is located in the McCowan & Kingston Road area and just up the street from the famous Canadian artist Doris McCarthy's home "Fool's Paradise" as it's called.  Cudia Park looks like a good place for birding but I think today's weather (cold, windy, & rainy) kept many bird hidden from sight.  Anyway, 30 species were seen including the following:

Turkey Vulture
Red-tailed Hawk (possibly nesting in the area)
Swainson's Thrush (many)
Bay-breasted Warbler (+ 6 of the more common warblers)
Red-eyed Vireo
Hairy Woodpecker
Downy Woodpecker
Northern Flicker
Scarlet Tanager (2 males, 1 female) (a first time bird for me)

After birding the park, I took a stroll down to the end of the street to see "Fool's Paradise".  For those of you who do not know the story, when Doris McCarthy bought the home in 1939, her mother thought she was a fool for buying a house so far away from everything.  It's actually just what an artist needs, peace and quiet.....what a beautiful spot!!!  The trees on the property were absolutely covered in birds.  They were everywhere but I didn't dare get the binoculars out figuring someone might phone the police on me as I am not a local to the area...oh well!!!

Happy birding!

I haven't been to Cudia Park in a couple of decades.  Will have to check it out one of these days.  Have you been on the Doris McCarthy trail, just south of Kingston/Bellamy?

Hi Lee,

Sorry for the slow response...I must have been sleeping!!!  Yes, I've been to the trail a couple of times but not for any serious birding...I think I'll go this week sometime.  I was going to go there after Cudia Park but it started to rain and I was too tired.
