Harris's Sparrow

One has been hanging around on Inksetter Road in Hamilton since November of last year. I went there on Nov 20th and three hours of waiting produced nothing. Then I went there on Jan 3rd this year on my way back from Fifty Point Conservation area - found it within 15 minutes of my arrival. Then a friend of mine and I dropped by again on Jan 30 on the way back from the same Fifty Point Conservation area. Again this bird was very obliging - showed up on a seed pile by the side of the road. Why Fifty Point you may ask. Well, both times I went there to see a special visitor and both times left without seeing it. Anyway here are some photos of the Sparrow, the first one was from Jan 3rd and the second one from Jan 30 - it hasn't changed a bit other than it survived some extremely cold nights and constant threat from a Cooper's Hawk.

Nice discovery and excellent capture with the diffuse illumination offered by the surrounding snow. That is worth at least 50 points. Eh, do I hear 75? Going once, going twice ... so awarded to Dinu for doing his thing to the delight of lesser mortals. You sure visit the Hamilton area a lot. Whot's it loyk?

Great capture as always!


I saw a sparrow with a small black dot on the chest yesterday. Wonder if it was an American tree sparrow. Will see if I can post a photo later.
