Hi everyone.  I was at Riverwood yesterday morning from 8-9am.  Very icy trails - this Sunday should get rid of ice/snow with +17c predicted!

Sighted:

Cardinals
Chickadees
Crows

Woodpecker (unknown) pecking inside a tree. Possibly a Hairy, too loud for a Downy, too quiet for a Pileated but there are also Red-bellied here!

Birch tree with medium size hole with small nest inside made of twigs, leaves and mud.

Lots of hungry squirrels (black + grey) taking almonds from my fingers.

So far in March in Mississauga just seeing the "usual" - Canada Geese, House Sparrows, Mallards, Black Ducks, Mourning Doves, Pigeons (Rock Doves), Ring-billed Gulls and Starlings.

Looks like a great place to explore! I went to the park for stargazing a few years ago.

I am going to visit Erindale Park soon. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi Charline.  The walking trails are a mess at the moment!

Having said that, I'm attending 2 events at Riverwood next week:

1.  15th, 9-10:30am, Winter Tree ID Walk.  Led by my friend Derek Stone.

2.  16th, 9-10:30am, Wildlife Tracking Walk.  Led by Dave Taylor.

Have attended numerous walks and seminars in the past by the above two gentlemen.  Always excellent and so informative!

Other walks and webinars coming up over the next two weeks

theriverwoodconservancy.org

So many birds and wildlife at Erindale Park and Riverwood.  Have been visiting both locations since mid-90's!

At Riverwood this morning from 8-11:30am.  Lots of birds including a Sharp-shinned Hawk which flew across the front of my face!, Hairy Woodpeckers x 2 (1m,1f) and White-breasted Nuthatches x 2.

Pleated Woodpeckers are being heard + seen! 😍

Attended Dave Taylor's "Wildlife Tracking Walk" - spectacular! 👍 ... Cottontail Rabbits, Coyote, Deer, Opossum, Racoon and Red Squirrel. Unknown bird tracks - Chickadee or Junco.

Hairy Woodpeckers
House Sparrows
Juncos
Mallards

Turkey Vulture - flew about 1 foot above my head, got a perfect look at his face and wings!

Saw a "mystery nest" in tree crook - not made of leaves or branches/twigs

Hi everyone.  Just a few highlights from the weekend:

Yesterday morning at Riverwood: Carolina Wren and lots of Chipmunks.  2 deer.
Birding walk, non stop various birds, photographers taking lots of photos!

This morning Blue Jays riled up due to a Cooper's Hawk flying through the woods.  Can hear numerous Red-bellied Woodpeckers everywhere.  Dozens of Spongy Moth caterpillars clusters on oak trees. Apparently the city will be spraying. Cabbage White butterfly.

Fungi walk, mainly seeing Turkey Tail and fake Turkey Tail, various lichen and moss.
