Dear Abby,

I might get in trouble for this one...I firmly believe women rule the world and they do so not just because they're smarter and tougher but because despite their differences, they stick together....we men are not only dumb and weaker, we sell each other out in a heartbeat....women are one big union....I didn't realize though that the union extended beyond species lines...

Every year we have Turdus migratorious nests in a crab apple tree in front of our house...usually we spot them but sometimes we'll be surprised in the fall with the appearance of a nest we hadn't noticed....this spring is no different....but it's been a very busy spring for me...it's the end of May and my Christmas stuff was all up until this past weekend...my wife of course hasn't missed the opportunity to nag me about taking it down....and I can't seem to get her to understand the math.... I mean she's only going to nag me to put it back up in a few short months anyway....

Our front door sports some greenery with lighting along the frame...well didn't a female Turdus migratorious decide that the top of our doorway sheltered by the greenery was the perfect place to build a nest....I didn't notice until well...it was too late....but divine intervention brought that first nest down and I thought whew....close one....my wife saw the nest and immediately launched into "well that wouldn't have happened if you had taken the decorations down" and she's probably right b/c well we've never had a nest there before....so I made a mental note....take down at the very least the greenery...

But BEFORE I could get to to it...the female nagged her mate to build another one...I mean it was only a week in between...sigh...and now she's laid a clutch....and every time I use the front door she squawks at me....and every time my wife uses the front door, both of them squawk at me.

Signed,

I love reading this. You made my day, and if you would like some more nagging, I will be happy to oblige.

I actually had a fire going inside 2 weeks ago....

I knew when we had those heat wave days earlier in spring that it would jinx the summer....whenever you get heat in early spring it's always a lousy summer weather wise....sigh....

I actually cured my issue.....I went back to work  ;D

I've always wanted to try a Ferris Bueller....

Just an update....

(1) Turns out only 3 of the 4 eggs hatched -- but the unhatched egg didn't get turfed until the nestlings were at least a week old.

(2) One of the poor little guys either fell or was pushed out of the nest...missed our welcome mat and hit the cement floor of our front porch...I received a panicked call from the kid (she NEVER calls...just texts) hyperventilating and crying...asking me what to do....yep....ummm....seemed kinda obvious to me....if its alive put it back...if it's dead throw it in the bushes....anyway I coached her into putting it back.....a couple fo days later I found it on the ground again...still alive (She thought it was dead when she put it back)....so I put it back....day later it was out again this time dead...sigh....there are two left and going strong...

(3) Soooo I guess the position themselves with the loaded end of the gun projecting out of the nest....from the spent casings on the floor of the porch...just in front of our front door.....I can't wait till they're gone.

Baby birds are now gone....they flew on Friday....2 of the 4 made it....one egg didn't hatch and one kept getting tossed from the nest....surprisingly it survived to 8 ft. falls to cement....bad summer for this....our kid is going to university this fall.....sigh.....we live in a rural area so my guess is with time she'll stop coming home for the summers....I admire the strength these Robins have...they do it 2 - 3 times a summer.
