Red Bellied/Naped Woodpecker, Balm Beach

My Adult son and I did a quick overnight trip to the beach to switch over the all season tires to winters. We arrived yesterday around 3 pm to a very cold house! It was nice outside but only 52F or 11.111 C (had to look that up).
Started the Heating systems and waited. There was very little activity outside even though it was 15 C or 59 F.
This Morning it was 15C at 9:30 am while I was drinking my morning coffee on the deck, a Red Bellied Woodpecker showed up in the tall Oak trees across the lane. Lighting was perfect and no leaves as the wind storm last week brought them all down. Usually the leaves on these oaks don't drop until late November. I went for my camera on the kitchen table, I got back to my chair as usual the bird was gone . We Shut down the water systems, set the heat for the winter changed the tires loaded the vehicle and departed. It was hard to leave because it was beautiful 20C/68F. Flurries arriving up there late this weekend.
Heard WB Nuthatches, a few Gold finches otherwise quiet.

Very vivid account. I felt the whole event and suffered an involuntary shiver at least once. I could smell the coffee, although perhaps it was the one in front of me now. I could see your arm sweep across the wooden table to hastily pick-up your camera and I felt myself wanting to shout back to you from the deck, "don't bother, it won't be here by the time you get back". I appreciate your creative nomenclature. I'm sure that you didn't see a red belly ... did you? Maybe you should get a more modern thermometer. I'd get you one if I could. Still, it was so nostalgic.

Certainly! it was a Red Bellied. I spotted more of them than Red Head's this past summer. We were there from May thru to the Oct 1st, maybe 10 days at home to deal with appointments. Regarding the Thermostat thingy, I have never used Celsius for indoor heating I prefer the ability to change the temp 1 deg F at a time. Also my electronic thermostats do not allow decimals when selecting temperature in Celsius 70F is 21.111C.
I worked in an industry that never converted to SI, all measurement remained imperial. The only option I can think of was fuel capacity weight in Kg's instead of pounds which was rare, google "Gimli Glider".

p.s. Most people I know converse in both imperial and SI in one sentence. Cruise set at 105kph, it's 25C, tire pressure is only 30psi(g). I need to buy 2 4'X8' sheets of 1 inch plywood tomorrow. etc
