I visited Bluffer's Park this morning for the first time in a very long while even though I never found it to be a very profitable birding site in the past. Nonetheless, I figured that the protected lagoon might attract some water fowl. Turns out that the protected lagoon doesn't much appeal to ducks because there were only five Mallards and one GW Teal, and I lost sight of the teal in minutes among the lily pads. The paths round the lagoon were also rather under utilized. I spotted one warbler in a bush. I had just lifted my camera in order to try to identify the species and immediately a dog walker came around the corner. That was the end of that! After shooting a GBH I headed east to the beach and walked in the wooded path that skirts the beach. Cardinals, blue jays, catbirds, RE vireos and lots of WT sparrows but not a single warbler or kinglet. Considering the the rather long haul from Pickering to Brimley Rd. in Scarborough and the traffic and construction hang-ups along the way the trip to Bluffer's was not really worth it, but it was nice to see the bluffs again from down below.
