Rouge pond

All fairly quiet at a Rouge pond today but it was very pleasant nonetheless because of the 12 degree temperature. At first all I could see were Red-winged blackbirds and starlings, but after a while both a couple of Am. Song sparrows and a Am. Tree sparrow showed up. That was par for the course, but what surprised me was a Downy woodpecker drumming away at the hard stalk of a dead reed. It spent quite some time at this activity so there must have been some sort of insect within the lumen of the reed.
A beaver showed up ... came out of the water ... groomed itself and then munched on some dogwood twigs. I switched to a 2X TC to give my 300mm lens greater reach but the resultant 600mm required me to focus manually, which was not too difficult since the beaver is a big subject and wasn't moving.
