A bit windy in Scarborough today in exposed places and thin cloud moved in after 9 o'clock. Much quieter today as well, or not well, as the case may be. The hundreds of WT sparrows were merely a few today and still a couple of WC sparrows, but no Chipping at all. A few warblers mostly high up (BT Blue, Myrtle, Yellow, Chestnust-sided). The number of RC kinglets was also way down. No thrushes and no thrasher in sight. More importantly, no Red-headed woodpeckers or Pileated WPs. There were still lots of Blue jays and I believe that they may have pestered the woodpeckers into leaving. Heard a House wren, a Carolina wren and an oriole but couldn't see them. Only photos that I tried to take were of a Chestnut-sided way up, a BT Blue in mid-story and a White-crowned sparrow close to the ground. Missed a point-blank opportunity because the AF on my lens was set to 3 meters instead of 1.5 meters and by the time I realized the problem and switched it the bird was gone. Tried to manual focus on the Chestnut-sided with 2X TC attached but that was just too difficult with a moving bird. Picked up a Canon 7D Mk II today, which should negate the need to manually focus once I get the camera's settings adjusted properly and hopefully no issues any more with camera crashing or AF not finding the subject. Sadly, the same idiot is still behind the equipment.
