Almost every year I am surprised by the apparently sudden leafing-out. Of course it isn't sudden and I try to make note of it. During the early stages I am made aware by virtue of being able to spot a bird easily and not so much as an appraisal of leaf unfurling. Then one day in May I go out with my camera and hear bird song and bird calls all around me, but am confounded in sighting any of them because of the density of foliage. As always, my reaction is ... when did that happen?
Have you spotted any shorebirds (peeps) on the beach? Do you have any nearby mudflats? I may head out to the waterfront early tomorrow morning and see what there is to see, if anything. I'll likely try again around the 29th, or 30th, which is when I have been able to find peeps in past years.
