Both cygnets and BCNH were reported a couple of days ago but I didn't see either.  The protected lagoon didn't feature any herons at all.  Almost every bird that I saw was a RW blackbird.  One again, there was a Gray catbird that couldn't stop singing.  I saw one E. kingbird and one Willow FC but they took off almost immediately.  There was a female House finch in a spruce tree carrying nesting material and it returned to the same bough several times thereby indicating a nest was present but unseen from the ground.  I stayed a while hoping that the male finch would show up and it did appear on-scene within a few minutes.  On the beach I scanned the brink of the bluffs and saw a Red-tailed hawk way up there.  It would swoop over to a colony of nesting swallows and pick one out to play with and then return to the cliff's edge.  Nasty business.  Out on the water the city had a cormorant performing semaphore duty for the local kayakers.  Nice touch.
