Across the road from a frustrated Ethan I saw my FOY killdeer.  There were three of them.  A fenced-off farmer's field excludes the notion of getting closer to these killdeer so I played with teleconverters and shot from the road.

I heard the killdeer before I actually spotted them.  The field was partially flooded by melt-water and also attracted many geese.

I finally sighted a TV a couple of days ago, but only a single bird.  None since then.  Aside from the three killdeer on that farmer's field, I haven't seen or heard any additional killdeer, and no deer carcasses either.  I went for a walk around the neighbourhood yesterday and as soon as I crossed the street to walk along the woodlot I spotted a pileated woodpecker.  It moved from one dead tree to another in desultory fashion as if on a mission and then flew north.  It called loudly, but only once.  This morning looks like a right-off ... dull, wet, blah!

How about those TVs!  I was cruising about yesterday, but not for chicks ... too early in the season, and I was thinking about your report of vultures and that it was just about 'here' that I saw my FOY TV, just a few days after your report.  My next thought was that it will probably be some time before I see my SOY TV.  Less than a minute after that thought disappeared into the ether I saw my SOY TV, flying in my direction, at the same speed, so that we were in synchrony, veering ever closer until it was ten meters off the port bow, maybe 7 meters above the ground/shoulder.  I felt like lowering the side window all the way and shouting, "where ya headed, myte," but that would be low-form, even for me.  If only I could have continued along the road while also taking a shot out the window (head shot ... like in the movies).  Alas, that would have been bad-form, even for me.  It was a rather thrilling moment for someone my age.  I half expected the director to shout "cut" but the director's chair was nowhere in sight. This all occurred on a concession road.

I saw some TVs on the weekend, soaring near the DVP.

I saw two TVs on a concession road north of Finch and then later in the day I saw three more very low to the ground in Scarborough, near the bluff.  I was going to take a photo of one of the low TVs but there were always trees in the way.  Moreover, when I raised my lens it wouldn't focus because I adjusted the range button just prior and forgot to put it back again.  I'm always doing dumb stuff like that.  The next five days bring unfavourable weather.  In fact, the next primo day may not be until April 5th ... we'll see.
