Whenever I drive by a pond I always check on the state of the thaw. It annoys the drivers behind me, which is an added bonus. It's not that I set out to annoy anyone, although I have a knack for it, it's just that everyone is always rushing on lesser roads, even dilapidated minor roads with impressive potholes that should rightfully discourage haste. I mean, why take such a scarred minor road when there are excellent main roads that will also get you to where you are going with less brutality, unless you take rough road because it is more rustic, or scenic, and then why would one fail to slow down and look around, like I do? All rhetoric aside, the ice is definitely thawing and patches of more chaotic water are arising here and there. This morning I noted that Wood ducks were already taking advantage of these sites here in the Rouge. Several pairs of Wood ducks were present close to shore ... the other shore, not close to me but across the pond. I waved, took a couple of shots, then went on my way trying to hit every pothole I could find.
