I returned to the site previously visited to see if I could locate a Carolina wren, which was reported there and which I heard during my last visit. Unfortunately, I had no success vis-a-vis this elusive wren, nor with the Field sparrow previously reported next to the boardwalk (in the wet area).
I
did encounter deer again and the pair of them had no fear of me. There was a modest seed dump back where I came from and so I figured that I would keep a vigil and see what sort of sparrows showed up. The vast majority of them were House sparrows (weaver finches) and also a few juncos, song sparrows, cardinals, and blackbirds. No field sparrow or wren. I noticed a couple of the assorted sparrows were not song sparrows, but instead resembled Swamp sparrows. OK, that's settled. Let's call them Swamp sparrows x 2.

Swamp sparrow 'I could have sworn there was a swamp here yesterday ... right here'.
