Found in woodland, near the bluff, in the shade, less than 12" above the turf and having broad leaves.  What is it?ATT:  Dr. John

Looks like a Mayapple.  We have one in our front yard.

I concur.  I wasn't sure what it was when I first saw it and it didn't have a label.  So, Mayapple it is.  It got my attention by the way the low-angle sunlight penetrated the bloom.

The position of the flower is also interesting, coming off the stem below the main leaves.

Low-level pollinators, such as small animals that use the broad leaf cover to hide and make-out.
