I found 2 swan geese yesterday afternoon while walking my dog. Inquiries in the farm area where I found them suggest they were abandonned when a family in the area, whose son had apparently been raising a few ducks/geese and taming various wild animals, recently moved.
They are adults, perhaps a male and female, and are quite tame, as if they have been pets. They can not fly very far and seem to give up very easily when cornered in long grass or reeds (only became aware of them when my dog chased one across a creek and cornered it in the reeds). Thinking they'd be easy prey for the coyotes and foxes in the area, I went back to check if they were still there last night, and finding them standing in a mud puddle on the side of the road, brought them home with me.
I live right in town, so can not keep them and am hoping someone on the site may know of a place where I could take them. They are lovely birds, completely white, blue eyes and very clean feathers. Since they seem so tame and to have been well cared for, I'd prefer not to give them to a local farmer, and unfortunately, the local SPCA will not take them.
Thank you in advance for any info you may be able to provide, and apologies for the duplicate posts, but was not sure where this would receive the most readers.
