There's a hawk on a nest in a large pine tree at the N. Toronto Sewage Treatment plant.  I couldn't make out what it was.  I did see one of the birds in flight but still don't know my raptors well enough to ID,  If it doesn't have an obvious red tail or is an osprey or bald eagle I'm clueless. :? Thanks Hazel

Went back to area Wed. 14/6 with scope and better bins. but no birds at nest.  Will have to wait and see if there is activity there next year. :)

Is that plant in the Don Valley?

I drive the DVP daily and often see Red-tailed hawks in the valley.  Last year I was aware of a nest near Don Mills Road, but they didn't return to the same tree this year.

Perched hawks can be very difficult to ID, but an adult red-tail is the only one in that size range that doesn't have any obvious barring on the tail.  All the others will have some pattern of alternating dark and light bars.

Thanks Brian.  Yes, it is the one off Millwood Road in the Don Valley.  I also saw yellow warbler, Baltimore Oriole male, mockingbird, r-w blackbirds, killdeer, song sparrows, eastern kingbird, starlings, barn and possibly a cliff swallow. flicker, house finch and, of course, house sparrows.
