Hey!!

Merry Christmas

I spotted a Coopers hawk on numerous occasions Earlier this morning  and again this early afternoon  


The feeders are quite busy right now with a large group of Am Goldfinches, House fiches and on the ground 10 or more Dark eyed Junkos.

I thew some black oil seeds on the deck and the junko's  are now right outside the door.

There is at least one robin hanging around. I spotted it on Sunday moments after a Cooper's blew through uncontrolled from the 50 km hour winds.

Is it Summer yet?  Ha Ha.

It would be nice to have a light snow on Christmas Eve then light snow on Christmas Day ... that's it.  None before or after!  I guess one has to enjoy skiing or skating to enjoy this weather.  Give me a beach with white sand, thanks.

Bird brain!  funny,   that's what my wife calls me..

Napper is a downhill skier ..and  loves Winter and big snow.. (hates shoveling it thou)

I love watching my feeders in the snow...and tracking through the woods in winter...looking for stories in the snow...

I noticed that the goldfinches do not visit my feeders but the other day, moments after sprinkling salt on my walk, a flock of a dozen or so landed on my walk and began to feed...presumably on the salt.

This morning   there were at least 30 American Goldfinches at  and under the feeders.  

More of them on the snow than at the feeders...  I put an old piece of Plywood (6" x 12") on the snow and put some black oil seed on it for the Dark eyed

Junko's.  I love watching the junko's, as they forage all over the yard, deck, shrubs.

Yeah I find the american tree sparrows visit either alone or in pairs...this year I'm lucky and have a pair...

Hey Napper...reminiscing about your pic of rabbit on picnic table...I find that in evenings we have 4 or 5 rabbits foraging under feeders etc....but I've found that they eat just about EVERYTHING...I throw my leftover dinner scraps out my backdoor and they'll eat it...bread...pasta...vegetables...and if I dump broth or sauce they will eat the coated snow...but the thing that surprised me is...they will eat leftover meat.

I have not seen such activity from our local hare/rabbits.... I have only seen them devour Veggies

and spilled bird seed..

Something thoroughly cleaned scrap  ribs my wife thew out on the deck on Sunday..  I suspect it was most likely an Oppossum or a Racoon..

I had a strange experience last Xmas...we threw out a turkey carcass...alas my dog Domi would have devoured it but he passed away a week before Xmas 2007....anyway, when I woke up in the a.m. the WHOLE carcass was gone...not a scrap and nary a sign it was even there...and no tracks....it was a large bird...was wondering if an owl or something carried it away
