Came home this morning after an unsuccessfull attempt for the 3 eastern Bluebirds in the rouge park (Pierce House area).
While shovelling snow I was entertained by the ever present this winter (some last winter) White-winged Crossbills (3 flocks total 72 birds) tearing into the neighbourhood Blue Spruce cone crop and even visiting my feeder. At my feeders the Siskins and Goldfinches were fighting it out for a perch on the niger feeder. Oh the joys of a finchy winter. After only 2 years at this house the only finches I am missing are red Crossbill and Hoary redpoll. My bets are on a hoary to show up first.
