Just got back from a wander around Humber Bay Park East. On the way in, near the white footbridge, were two Great Egrets. After parking our car, we humped our camera gear over to a good spot. Unfortunately, as we were setting up, a rather loud spectator showed up. Result .... bye bye Egrets. Oh well, there's always tomorrow.
Other sightings -- three Black-Crowned Night Herons (one very cooperative for photos), several Baltimore Orioles, Yellow Warblers, an Eastern Kingbird, lots of Red-Winged Blackbirds and their young, several Mallard families .. and Cedar Waxwings.

cheers,
jim

July 27/06/  I spotted a pair of Great Egrets from the Bloor Subway while crossing the Humber at Old Mill. After getting the car at Royal York, drove back to see if they were still there  - and to identify them - I wasn't sure what they were.  Anyways, they were just south of the old stone bridge at the Old Mill access road.  Busily feeding in the river.
July 28/06 Jumped up from my seat on the subway while crossing the Humber this morning and looking south to under the Bloor bridge, there those beautiful white birds were again.  Looks like they're pretty happy with the area, so a trip out to look at them would likely be successful today or in the next few days.

cheers.
Dennis

Thanks Dennis ... we photographed Great Egrets and Great Blue Herons in that spot last year, but haven't checked it out this season. Time for another trip ...

Great views of them last evening on the breakwater by the Sunnyside boardwalk plus great blues and night herons. Also 2 great black-back gulls have taken up residence on the wall. And the Barnacle Goose is still mixing with flock of Canada's.

We spotted a single Great Egret sharing the beach with the Barnacle Goose just east of the Humber foot bridge this morning.
They are an even nicer sighting when found together.

Just got in from a quick trip up to the Holland Landing sewage lagoons. Lots of Lesser Yellowlegs and Bonaparte's Gulls. Stopped in at Etienne Brule park on the way home and spotted two Great Egrets and a pair of Belted Kingfishers.

cheers,
jim
