The Beare Wetlands are part of the Rouge, which extends all the way up to Too Good Pond in Markham (good place to see a Caspian Tern fishing) and Richmond Green up in Richmond Hill (Elgin Mills & Leslie) and south to Rouge Beach near Lawrence & Port Union.
The Beare Wetlands can yield some nice birds, but it can get very hot in the open. There's nice trails going both north and south from there that go thru the woods. If you climb the hill, you get a good look at any raptors in the area.
Just to the north and east, off the Scarborough-Pickering Townline and Old Finch, there's a pond just north of the railway tracks that often has some good birds. I've had Green Herons in the area closest to the road.
