I was planning to visit Col Sam Smith park in hopes of seeing the snowy owl (anyone know if he's still there?) but we were busy until late afternoon so I went around the corner to German Mills park instead. It was very quiet except for a very noisy kingfisher who was flying back and forth along the stream (most of which is still open water btw). I don't like to sit still but getting a good shot of him has become my personal challenge for the next few weeks. I got a good (long distance) look at him and I'm surprised he is so colorful at this time of year. I heard him a few weeks ago so I assume he stayed for the winter. Is this normal?

Also, I'm across the street from Bestview Park and I've seen a couple of redtails cruising together so I hope they will be nesting close by.
