Yesterday afternoon, saw a MallardXBlack Duck hybrid swimming with 3 male Mallards at Erindale Park, side shoot on East side of Credit River below the Burnhamthorpe bridge - close to the main trail. Look for the area with all the flattened grass and reeds near the picnic table.
Thanks Blake for identifying this bird for me based on my description on the phone of "it looks like a Mallard that's half female, half male with a green mohawk and greyish face". You told me what the bird was, I looked it up on Google Images and ... Yep!
While at Erindale, also saw a male Belted Kingfisher by the pond (South of Burnhamthorpe, East side of trail). He then flew directly above me towards the river.
Up the hill at Riverwood Park: Lots of Robins, Red-winged Blackbirds, Song Sparrows and Turkey Vultures. Saw 2 Red Squirrels by the MacEwan House feeders - chasing each other, running circles around a tree, popping in & out of tree holes, etc. Quite funny to watch and to hear them making so much chattering/whirring sounds!
