Ventured to High Park to capture my favorite couple, these 2 are on the other side of High Park in a small pond not the duck pond, the locale gives you the opportunity to get closer if you are still enough to let them get comfortable....also observed a Mute swan sitting on her nest as well as a Black Capped Night Herron, the odd Comorant and various other water fowl...here are the Wood duck pics cheers!

Hi Niloc,
Your pictures are lovely.
Have you seen the Great Blue Heron yet at Grenadier Pond?

I have a question which I am sure will sound odd but here goes.  Lately, when I am at Grenadier Pond (at the part of the pond where it widens which is just after that narrow little section where all the ducks were all winter) I hear an odd sound from across the pond - right at the area where the female swan is sitting on her nest - this sound is like that of a monkey or ape, to be frank and I was wondering if you knew what it was. There is a low rise apartment building sort of behind where the swan was sitting yesterday and it is from that area that this sound comes.

Have you heard this?  Any idea.

I know the sound Kpaw it is a Northern Flicker woodpecker I know because I saw it and took it's picture...as far as the Great Blue, no luck but maybe for me timing has not been right I will keep looking though lol!

Mathew thanks for the compliment, I find that if the little couple are in their pond there is opportunity to get a little closer than the duck pond, the lighting tends to be better too.

Colin ... I'm truly happy that you've cleared this up as I was going to suggest that perhaps someone across the pond was watching Sesame Street or an old Tarzan movie on tv.

Sorry again for the rather odd question.  Unless I asked I would never have known.  No Sesame Street or old Tarzan movies though - just a curious question.  I will refrain in the future.

KPaw ... Sorry, I sincerely apologize for my goofy posting earlier.  

I haven't been to Grenadier Pond for ages and was seriously wondering what that sound was also, based on your description.  Next time I'm there, will be listening for it!  It's nice to know what type of bird was creating it because I had no idea.  

Please don't let my off the wall, warped sense of humour prevent you from posting ANY question that you may have, because I ended up learning something new thanks to your question and Colin's answer!  There are honestly no odd questions here in the forum - just some odd characters, like this person named "Bird Brain"!  :shock: :lol:

Kpaw no question is odd that's what I understand this site to be about, we all have a passion for nature either photography or Birdwatching, if I did not have the pleasure of meeting some birders in Leslie Spit one day I would have never been able to get my picture of the Great Horned Owl, up to that point I had never seen a Great Horned Owl in real life so thanks to some kind birders I got the thrill of a lifetime and a pretty good pic as they were quite helpful in pointing out the location...
