Poor goldfinches

My poor goldfinches looked lost this morning. During the night "something" had dislodged the niger feeder and it was on the ground. The goldfinches were running up and down each and every branch in an effort to locate the seed. Not one thought to check the ground! Sad to see. My husband put them out of their misery before he started breakfast.
The feeder has been full all day with g.finches, house finches and one siskin. The juncos are still clearing the seed on the ground, helped by a couple of m.doves.

Did he cook them or prefer them raw?

Hey!!

Our Am gold Finches have no!! problem finding food on the ground.. I dunno why.. maybe because  of the chaos and the waiting forced them to hit the ground running..

It has settled down a little now.. but they still occasionally will drop down and forage under the feeders and among the gardens..  I put seed on some large rock features in my yard for the Junco's... but the goldfinches dominated most of this past winter.

No Niger ! All Black Oil Seed..

Oh, man ... that was bad!    Nice to know there are others here with an off the wall, warped sense of humour.

Tell me about it...all winter long I was out on the deck in my housecoat and snow boots cleaning the snow off the feeders before I even got my cup of tea - good thing hubby makes his own breakfast otherwise he would have had to take a number!  :-)

Oh dear, big groans! Must be the silly season.
I'm happy to report my finches are alive and well. I'm not so sure about the sparrows at Cranberry Marsh as Attila has been shooting them. (Bird Photo Corner today re Niagara.)
Maybe he'll be fair game (!) for some Monty Python humour now!!
Happy Birding this sunny weekend.

OK folks, let's get real before we get booted off the site!
Had a delightful visit today from a song sparrow, flitting all over the garden while the goldfinches just kept chomping thro' the niger seed.
The RW blackbird flew in again. This is the first year I've had this bird in my backyard.
