Today I was blessed with the opportunity to take numerous pics of a Great Blue Heron at Toogood Pond in Markham.
He was in the main pond area near the path into the forest area and sometimes ventures off along the river bank towards the north side of the park.
Here are some pics GBH Pics
I've only seen this Heron twice this year and I've only seen one.

Other bids I saw were a Cedar Waxwing, several American Goldfinches, May types of Sparrows (Areican Tree, House, Savannah) and the usual band of Canadian geese and Mallaards.

Toogood pond is located on the corner of Carlton and Main St. unionville.

Nice stuff.

There's usually a GBH around Too Good most years. You can find about a dozen around the corner at the Milne Dam Conservation Area. There's usually a Great Egret there also.

If you're there btwn 6-7pm, watch for Caspian Terns fishing out of the pond. Look around for the Wood Ducks also.

Cool thanx Kin.

A couple weeks back I was at Milne Dam and saw 3 herons and 3 egrets as well....but they were too far to get decent pics, they usually hang out on the far side(south) of the pond, but I'm not that familiar with that place yet. Is there a way through the forest?

Near the beach at Milne, there's usually a few GBH's a little closer as long as there aren't off-lease dogs around, but if there's one at Too Good, it'll like allow the closest approach.

While you're up that way, try Mackenzie marsh in Aurora. I believe it's Aurora sideroad & Yonge. I've had the Green Herons fairly close (they were walking on the road when the road was closed during construction).

I've never tried for a trail thru the southern portion of Milne. There might be access via Camp Chimo, but that's private property.

Great pics, Tyger. You certainly captured the essence of the bird. We've had a GBHE hanging around our 2 acre pond here in Whitchurch-Stouffville and it has developed the practice of standing on the tree swallow nest boxes around the shore line which gives it a better vantage point to look for frogs I guess. The fragile perch on top of the martin house is all askew so it looks like he has tried that as well. Al
