White Egret Brickworks Toronto today about 1:00pm

First time for me seeing the Egret in the Brickworks although I was told by a few people they had seen it, to bad for the RWBB as they chased the poor fellow away before he had a chance to do any fishing in the pond....a few pics below - cheers

Update to last pics Saturday saw the Egret was able to get a few quick pics as he flew over the Brickworks ...

The second photo really shows that the male RWBB go after anything and everything!  :shock:  Lately, I've even seen them going after GBH's!  Aggressive buggers!  :lol:

we actually saw one about 3-4 weeks ago. we caught it taking off from the Brickworks as we arrived.
but a nice find!
was at the Brickworks yesterday and it was relatively quiet (except for the three red-tailed hawks who were swooping REALLY low on Bayview near the old Bayview Ghost apartments)

who knows...I'm young-ish and sometimes i'm there with my fiancee. she has white blonde hair, so she is hard to miss.
i'm usually stumbling around the upper escarpment, looking for woodpeckers and avoiding the annoying people who bring their dogs and let them run offleash!

and we usually have a camera in tow, but that's on hiatus for a few weeks (someone stole our bags and our zoom lens while we were overseas)

Further to the aggressive behavior by the RW Blackbird, I wonder if the Egret attacks the Blackbird nests and eats the eggs or young nestlings?? The nests are probably within the hunting territory of the Egret.

 Anybody have any knowledge of this behavior in egrets or herons ?

I don't think the Egret eats the young of the RWB but I could be wrong.... I think though that it has to do more with local...if anything stands near the nests which is exactcly where the Egret stands to fish then yes attacks are going to happen, if I myself walk near the nests the Blackbirds tend to congregate and start aggressive churping and buzzing around but not that aggressive, funny thing is the same day at the Brickworks almost the same time I was taking the Egret pics a huge Red Tailed hawk was getting chased by about 6 RWB lol...

Thank you so much for the link to the information.  I've seen it from the DVP but I didn't know you could actually walk down there.  Sounds like a fun thing to do on a Saturday afternoon!  Must check it out soon.

if you want to see birds or want tranquility, Brickworks and Saturdays do not mix.
Farmers' market until noonish, then lots of families and dogwalkers.

best if you can take a lunchtime off mid-week. you see lots of special things there plus its peaceful
