I birded Sam Smith Park early this morning, and found it pretty quiet.  I was lucky enough to see one flock of Whimbrel and a first year male Orchard Oriole, but aside from that it was slow.  I only saw 3 warbler species (Yellow, Yellowthroat, and Redstart).

I had much better luck in my own backyard in the afternoon.  I had a Mourning Warbler and a Magnolia singing before I started cutting the lawn.  When I finished, I noticed a Gay-cheeked Thrush at the back of the yard.  I went back for a closer look and found a Canada Warbler, a Black-throated Blue, a couple of Magnolias, and a Yellowthroat.

It helps take the drudgery out of yardwork, but it also makes me wonder what I might have seen if I'd been out doing real birding!
