The problem was not unexpected. It seems every time I go away on holidays, something breaks somewhere. It is usually here at work, with the alarm system going off or some other crisis. I was therefore quite amazed that nothing blew up while I was away. So when I saw the board was down when I returned, I just sighed and thought I should have known better.

Anyway, the problem had to do with a glitch on the server where the connection between the board and the database was broken. The ISP folks had to fix it. I'm sorry so many of you were lost without your daily visits to the board. I plan on never going on holidays anymore, so this should not happen again...

Hi everyone,

Thanks Andy for the explanation.  I almost had to cancel my internet services as there are very few websites left that peak my interest anymore.  This one certainly does just that.  Thanks for getting the site up and running again.

No fishing, Craig. We were on a Mediterranean cruise. That was one reason I didn't check my emails; internet cost on the ship was seventy five cents per minute. And all the internet cafes on shore were very busy. I'm glad to be back home as I am not cut out to be wandering about in huge crowds in the heat.

On a side note, even though I did not do any intentional birding, I was surprised by the lack of bird life everywhere we went. Other than a few gulls at sea and in port, some swallows, pigeons and house sparrow-like critters in town, there was nothing to be seen. I found that very odd.

The problem was not unexpected! How dare you take time out for your life then?!

Okay, so I am kidding... but really, the fact that we are here with someone who actually acknowledges the questions posed and does so in a timely manner is priceless and truly appreciated.

Thanks a whole heap for coming back (smile) and while I am at it... thanks for being the conduit to bringing this wonderfully generous and informative clan of folk together! I am amazed at how much this site has helped me learn about the flapping wonders in my "backyard" and beyond!

Many thanks to all of you who contribute as well!

I'll jump on that bandwagon! Thanks for organizing this helpful and interesting site. I appreciate all the experts who are tolerant of those like me who aren't quite as knowledgeable. Welcome back to where all the good birds are!

I was so upset that I cannot go onto the forum! I was lost as I go to the forum almost everyday, to check and to get information on Birding...I am so glad that it's now back on...it's a forum withdrawn syndrome!  :)
