This little guy showed up in the Hamilton area for a few weeks this spring, and after getting some photos I decided to give the 5D Mark II's video mode a try. Hope you enjoy - I love these guys, and this one was really co-operative!

Very nice video.  You sure had a good look at him.  I hear them often at the countryside preserve in Uxbridge, but, I've only seeen actually one once.

That's super cool. I got a HD video camera so that I would record some song and behaviour along with stills, but I think I need to wait till the 60D to really get what I want.

Did you use an external mic or the built-in one on the 5Dm2?

That is very impressive, both because of the bird and setting itself and because of the quality of the video.  Weren't you thinking the whole time about the photo ops you were missing?  Thanks for posting this as I have been curious as to the quality of video as a new function on DSLRs - and it is clearly quite good.  How much space did that first clip take up on your card?

Hi guys,

I was using the internal mic, which was picking up the IS sound a bit. Even with an external mic, you need to keep it a few feet away from the lens. I had gotten all the photos opps I thought I would get, and he kept singing away, so I figured I should get some video. That said, I could see myself kicking myself for shots lost sometimes!

Video size varies a bit depending on the scene, but is typically about 3GB for every 10 minutes in raw format.
