the  Avocet seen yesterday in Pringle Creek,( from the Brock St., Whitby, bridge--east side.)  was seen at 9:am this moring out on the mud flat .

Where along Brock Street did you see the avocet?

Monday- 7 PM
The American Avocet was still present, along with a half a dozen Lesser Yellowlegs.
It is on the mudflats, east of the bridge, where Pringle Creek enters Whitby Harbour.
The ares is signed for no parking beacuse of the people who feed Canada Geese. You can park on the first road north of the bridge- Front St.

Seems the Avocet is spending its days flying back and forth between Rotary Park (South Ajax) and Pringle Creek.

I checked Rotary on the way to work this morning and the Avocet was feeding by the mud flat in front of the canoe launch at 7:00 a.m., in the midst of a flock of geese (also present at that location lately are a green heron and an Osprey).  I later saw a report that the Avocet was back at Pringle around 10:00 a.m.

Wonder if anyone has actually seen it come in for a landing at either location?

Hi there,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Lovely sighting of the A. Avocet @ Pringle Creek last evening.  It was feeding and wading in the wide bend of the creek on the east side of the Brock St. bridge.  We viewed it from 7 - 7:30pm.  Looks like a juvenile (white throat, light cinnamon wash on the back of the neck and head).  Wonder if the bird sighted at Rotary is even the same bird as that seen at Pringle Creek because B-Mail reports the bird was also present @ Pringle Creek this morning.

Thanks to the other birders who shared stories and looks through their scopes last night!

Saw the Avocet this evening at 5p.m. on the east side of Pringle Creek on the mudflat, along with other smaller shorebirds.  Fellow birder identified one as a dunlin.

Thanks for the heads up. I popped along earlier today (around 9am). Followed a trail to get along by the mudflat (north side of creek) and got these pics (handheld, 500mm (1.5 conversion) plus 1.5 TC - 200 shots, these are the best I could get).
