American White Pelican

Very rewarding early evening. Went to Oshawa Second Marsh at 5pm and saw the American White Pelican, as reported on Ontbirds. Then went to try Pringle Creek again around 5:20 and saw the Avocet. These are both first sightings for me. Thanks to sites like this for posting such helpful info.

Popped along as I was in the area (Pringle Creek visit) and got a poor picture (500mm, 1.5 conversion, plus 1.5 TC - rested on GM platform)

Graham: I wish I could take such a poor picture! I know how far away the bird was. Decent pic "for the record".

The American White Pelican was sitting on the island north of the GM platform with a large number of Cormorants

Sunday, August 30- 9 AM
The Pelican was fishing in the middle of the marsh and then it rested on the man made island north of the GM platform with the Cormorants. There were 6 Great Egrets.

We were at the marsh between 4:00 and 6:00PM and didn't see the pelican, alas, nor the egrets. But the light was against us by then. We did see great blue, black-crowned and and green herons.

There was one reported flying west at Port Credit around noon yesterday.
Quite likely the Whitby bird.

Ouch Brian.
The Whitby bird was an Oshawa bird. The Avocet is a Whitby bird
As for viewing times to avoid sun in your eyes
Oshawa Second marsh best in morning and Cranberry marsh off Halls road in the afternoon.
