We went to Whitby today.
First, the avocet. Nothing to be seen. I sort of guessed that from the lack of updating. Nothing at noon, nothing at 4 PM. nothing there on Sunday as well.

We then went to the Lyne Marsh/Cranberry Marsh. wow...what an amazing place. Oshawa/Whitby people are so very lucky.

we saw chickadees and nuthatches that fed our of our hands. SO many bluejays.
saw one hummingbird, a great blue heron and a red-tailed hawk.

I think its our new favourite spot in the GTA

It is a great place.  I hope you checked out Halls Rd. side as well.  As you can see from the ONTBIRDS at the top of this site, they have some good sightings, aside from the raptors.  There is also the McLaughlin Bay Reserve at the GM Headquarters in Oshawa.  That is where the American White Pelican was sighted a little while back.  There are a few marshes there and some walking paths, viewing decks, etc.  Also, Thickson's Woods at the south end of Thickson's Road in Whitby.  Anyway, glad you enjoyed your trip to Durham Region.
