After 2 weeks of excellent weather we finally had a cold front pass through today.
The wind forcast for the weekend is north-east 10  on Saturday and north 15 on Sunday.
There should be large numbers of Broad-winged Hawks, American Kestrels, and Sharp-shinned Hawks on the move.
In 19 years of watching hawks at Cranberry Marsh, I have seen the big Broad-wing Hawk migration only 2 times. It either happends during the week or we
miss it. I will be at Cranberry all weekend.
The platform at Cranberry Marsh will fill up fast. I believe that High Park or Rosetta McClain will have more space.

There is plenty of room at Rosetta for birders, but parking is limited. Also unless conditions are perfect, the Broadwings dont come right to the lakeshore. Our greatest Broadwing total is just over 200 in a day, though many of those were at excellent viewing distance. Our view to the north is limited. Im sure over the coming days we will have some great totals, but I dont want folks to think there is the same chance to see thousands of Broadwinged Hawks at our location. I do expect a large migration of Sharpshinned Hawks and Kestrels, with a good mix of other raptors. With luck we will get some large BOPS below the bluff!
High Park has had large Broadwing migration days in the past.
Where ever you are this weekend, keep your eyes on the skies,as often the Broadwing migration is on a broad front.
