Hello Everyone,

Now I know that almost everyone has posted photos of GBH, however, the only ones I ever come across are either too far away or flying out of the area I am going to.This one I always seem to see just flying over top and I always know where he goes, but I can never seem to find him when I get there. Or when I do find him he's just walking on the road like the pictures I posted the other day.    So FINALLY I caught him in the pond. It was 7:40 tonight so they're quite blurry due to me moving ever so slightly in such low light conditions.(I know tripod...XMas list!). But I had to post it because I've been trying to capture this guy in the water for 4 months and finally succeeded. I spent all day at work looking for him. (when I wasn't working of course   )

Great efforts for a dark evening and a moving bird.

I second what Colin said - you've got the composition down pat, now it's just a matter of catching it in the right light and with the right settings dialed in on the camera.

Thank you Attila!
Hearing compliments from yourself and all the folks here is so nice. The photos you and everyone post here are fantastic. All I would like to do is be able to capture some images  like them. I love taking photos but have no idea how to do so properly. I hate leaving my camera on automatic  but I have read my instruction manual 10 times and unless you know what the book is already talking about in terms of settings than it may as well be written in another language.
I know I should post a new topic under General Discussions and will do so if necessary but can anyone recommend a book or website than may be able to assist newbie SLR users like me in regards to learning what these cameras can do and how to do it.
Thank you everyone for your kind words and encouragement. And for also posting such beautiful images I hope to one day be able to capture myself

Meg

Meg:  I'm in much the same position as you.  I have met a lot of very nice photographers at various sites around the GTA/905 and several have recommended Aperture Priority setting (AV on my Canon) and f8 with auto focus.  They have also recommended Bryan Peterson's "Understanding Exposure".  I just bought it and will start to read soon!  Keep on trying - it does seem intimidating at first!

Thanks for the priority setting tip, works great.
I will most likely invest in the book you mentioned. Knowing what everything means helps alot with trying to figure out how to take the best shot possible.
Thanks for the advice.

The last couple of times we have been to Humber Bay East there has been a very cooperative GBH fishing in the reeds. If you go over to the bridge (follow the path south out of the parking lot) and go to your left and check the stream you should find it. There are also a couple of juvenile Night Herons and an Egret.

Cheers,

Bernie

ps
Nice shots-keep up the good work.
