With the long weekend coming up there's more possible free time to go somewhere a little farther out of the city for some birding. Would anyone recommend an interesting place near Toronto to go birding this long weekend, possibly within a few hours' drive? All suggestions will be greatly appreciated and Thank you in advance!

Ontario Field Ornithologists have a field trip on Saturday in the Burlington/Hamilton area.  Closer to home, Toronto Ornithological Club has a walk on the Toronto Islands. Their websites have details.

Fall colours are at peak in Algonquin, so that's either good or bad. If you want to catch the fall colours at the same time, that would be good. If you hate crowds, then it's bad. Algonquin will likely be a zoo this weekend.

It does sound like some good birds have been found in the Prince Edward County region. The long weekend crowds shouldn't be as bad, since it's a little warmer down there and the colour change is less. We camped at Presquile a few years ago on the long weekend and it was fairly quiet. The rain probably didn't help.

I was thinking of going to the Prince Edward Point area.  Any suggestions for specific areas?  I am not at all familiar with what's available.  Thanks for any help.

For PEP, this is probably the best page I know out there for directions and such. http://ca.geocities.com/larry.neily@rog ... predpt.htm

Check out the rest of Larry's siteguides for what else is around. Larry is based in Ottawa, but his "Favourite outlying sites" lists quite a few good places close to the GTA.
