Man, these are hard birds to photograph. They don't sit still very long. Got this one making runs into my black sunflower feeder today. He-She came and went for a good half hour. Must have been stockpiling the seeds somewhere closeby.

Lucky me, I now have a camera that can capture birds better.

I'm not sure that these are all that rare, but I do now know that there is a difference between this and the white Breasted Nuthatch, which I've seen a lot more of.

Yep!! I know the feeling. Try Warblers  . They are even more fun..

My neck hurts just thinking about it.

Ah, now thats the shot I wanted to get. Beauty.  :P

A large hawk has been hunting our feeder area for the last few months and I think that keeps most of the birds pretty fidgety and paranoid. Definately fewer doves around this month.

Saw the hawk in the barely visible predawn light this morning just meters out the back on the fenceline looking over the feeders. Would need a verrrry special camera with IR capabilities to capture that.
  Thanks Napper.

Hey

pforde

What type of hawk is it?.  Over the last few days I have spotted a Coopers hawk around the subdivision. Yesterday one was stalking a Mourning dove in fligth

I'm sure the dove was unaware..

Napper- I think it must have been a Coopers Hawk. Had that "capped" look with the lighter area around the neckline.

Again, it was predawnish, ...and they don't often sit still too long around here due to the Red Wings and Crows chasing em off pretty quickly.
On the far side of the meadow we back onto , we could see a hawk having that issue with some "chasers" this morning.
