To day in the port lands hear in Toronto between the hours of 9am and 11am I watched in amassment as 1700 Monarch Butterflies moved though the city !

some stop to nectar on blooming Bamboo witch got me thinking of the mess my next door naber hear in High park has in his back yard ( witch is full of Bamboo ) when I got home the back yard had 57 monarchs flying and now going to roost for the night .....

Bev and I are heading to Point Pelee for the weekend I hope we get to see the fly out over the point !!

Hi Craig..they sure have been moving through the last 2 days. All day long on 6th Colin and I had the oft frustrating task of separating the hawks from the Monarchs. They were all over the sky and over the course of the 6th,we saw thousands and thousands of Monarchs. Today it wasnt as heavy all day,but still,certainly a very significant movement of them.

Yes!  In my job, I move about the city all day.  There was rarely a time when I couldn't look up and see 3, 4, 5 or more monarchs.  This was as far north as Sheppard, so they aren't all along the lake.  I don't ever remember a day like that.

Craig, do you really mean bamboo??  Or is it a bamboo-like plant, such as Japanese knotweed?

Yesterday, around noon, I was driving up Bayview from downtown and I was amazed to see dozens and dozens of Monarchs wherever I looked in the sky. It was an amazing sight.

Hi Pat Yes you are right it is Japanese knotweed , I just Googl it and found out how bad this plant is !!!

Good day

 On Thursday last (Sept. 7th) there was a large movement of Monarchs as well as many resting and nectaring. Estimate was 5000+ Monarchs and today (Sept. 9th) over Hawk Hill in High Park probably 1000+ Monarchs were observed, many very high up and distracting as we were watching for raptors.

 Also on Hawk Hill each day are 2 Black Swallow Tailed Butterflies, nice to see.
