Very nice pictures.

I believe number 3 is a Red-breasted Merganser. It doesn't have a white chin patch and the neck seems to lack a well-defined border between reddish brown and white, even if it's hard to see from this angle. The bill also seems to have less of a hook than Common Merganser.

Thanks Denis.  Try Port Hope, bottom of Ontario Street.  This fellow swims with the Mallards there - quite interesting.  Cobourg Harbour is also well worth the trip.  I will be going back to improve on my Long Tail shots (if at first you don't succeed ...!)

i,m in a photography club here in port perry,and this spring we a fellow,who gave a talk,and showed us some excellent pics,and one of those was a hoodie,taken on the ganaraska river,in port hope,who hung around with mallards! he was saying that the hoodie,s been with those mallards,for a few years now! wow! same bird? what are the odds?
